Our own personal development is one of the most important concepts that we will ever know in each of our lives.
It is the nature by which we focus on improving ourselves, and this can and should take place on a daily basis.
The very act of acknowledging what specific traits we would like to possess and what skills we would like to be great at is the first step in our personal development. Following those decisions we should work on those traits and skills as often as possible, in order to reach the highest level of self-fulfilment possible.
Create Systems That Work For You
A wise man once said “fail to prepare, prepare to fail”. I believe that besides the obvious, this quote has a hidden meaning. The hidden meaning being that you should put various systems in place that prepare you for tasks that you know you will have to do on a regular basis.
Take your common tasks down a notch, by putting something in place, whether it be code to auto post your new blog posts to twitter or installing a cat flap so you don’t have to constantly open the door.
Simply put, you just have to find ways to reduce the amount of times (down to zero if possible) you have to repeatedly carry out laborious tasks which can easily be automated. Tim Ferris wrote a whole book on this topic for God sake, called the four hour work week.
Use Confident Body Language
No matter what your wear or if you do something new each day, I think you will ultimately lose any spark of confidence you may have if you don’t use confident body language on a frequent basis.
If your at a party, don’t be the one sitting down alone on the couch, listening in on other people’s conversations. Be the person standing up in the middle of the group, sharing your thoughts and opinions on a range of matter’s. But don’t leave it at that, ask other’s for their opinion too and be ready to defend your own opinions too, in a calm and confident manner, if needs be. But don’t worry, if this is a little difficult for you just keep trying.
Some people say you should “fake it until you make it”, so simply portraying a sense of confidence if sufficient for now as long as you actively work on developing your own inner confidence.
Ignore Pointless Distractions
No matter who you are, what you do for a living or where you live, there will always be a plethora of distractions getting in the way of your goals on a daily basis. This is life, and we’re all used to it.
However if we really want to succeed we need to achieve certain levels of focus. We may all be able to complete our daily tasks, however, it is the person that completes their tasks with the highest levels of focus that will do so in a much more efficient manner.
By simply making a list of our most counterproductive distractions and putting it up on our fridge we are already taking our first step in completely eliminating them from our lives altogether.
In order to achieve high levels of focus, we should take the time to reflect on our current lifestyles so that we may really understand what it is that is distracting us the most.
Focus On Your Growth
There is not point whatsoever doing what you do if you are not getting better. You need to improve on a daily basis in order to every have a change of become the best you can be. Push the boundaries and don’t look back at any mistakes, just learn from them. Which leads me to mention, you should never compare yourself with others when measuring your own growth.
And here’s a personal point to add to that. I’m about 5’6” and being a guy most people I know are at least an inch or two taller. Some say we ‘small people’ are at a disadvantage ha ha!! Hell no. I wake up every morning at 6am and destroy the day. I inspire others and am constantly told that I’m a source of motivation for them. I support my family & friends in many ways and I never nor will I ever, buckle or crumble under pressure applied. Each and every success or trouble that comes my way simply hardens my own resolve to step up my game, and I enjoy doing it in the process.
I will never focus on anyone else’s life or current state of being because I’m unaware of the path they have walked to get there. And neither should you. All we know for sure is our own path, and nobody else can walk it for us.
Actually I just remembered that the title is focus on growth, so I just want to let you know that no pun was intended!!
Constantly Re-Evaluate Your Goals
There is no greater feeling in this world than to achieve a goal that once seemed as if it were an impassable mountain. You’ve done great before and you know exactly what it feels like.
With this in mind its important to constantly ensure that the goals your are working towards are crystal clear. You need to know exactly what you need to do in order to drive yourself in the direction of that goal and above all else you need to have an unquestionable reason as to why you are chasing that dream in the first place.
Only Compete With Yourself
We often focus too much on other peoples lives & their successes instead of focusing on our own. As a result we naturally compete with them for different reasons.
One thing is for sure, we should not be competing with them at all. We don’t know what paths they took to get to where they are today and so how can we really compete with them if we don’t even understand what they are doing?
You must always compete with yourself. Each and every day look at yourself in the mirror and think what are you going to do today that will make you a better person? What can you expand on from a previous day that will help you move forward? Or what are you not going to do or improve on today, that you didn’t do so well in the past?
Every day, focus on being the best version of yourself. You will soon find that it’s much harder than competing with somebody else.
Always Be Grateful
This is more of a wildcard characteristic of motivated individuals, as it can vary from character to character.
However I have found this to be true more times than not, with regards to the motivated people I have met in my life so far. I think the more grateful you are, the more motivation you will harness as, in essence, to be grateful in general is to be happy with what you have.
This does not mean your ok with settling, it just means that you are or could be thankful for a number of reasons, for example, for what you currently own, your current health, your career etc. To be grateful is to be positive, and to be positive towards your current situation, on the regular, is extremely useful in motivating you to achieve your goals.
I would love to know what points resonate with you the most, so please leave a comment if you have 30 seconds to spare!
